The Certificate of Recognition Program a.k.a. “COR”
A while back, several governments realized the importance of workplace safety and developed guidelines to help companies meet basic standards. And guess what? Companies who implemented these safety standards saw amazing results including lower costs, insurance rebates, happier workers and improved operations. Soon the companies who achieved their COR became the contractors EVERYONE wanted to do business with.
But the whole COR thing can be a bit confusing, so here’s the lowdown:
The COR Players
- Certifying Partners (i.e.: EnForm, Alberta Construction Safety Association, Manufacturer’s Health & Safety Association—and a number of others depending on industry sector.
- Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry
- WorkSafe BC (British Columbia)
- Alberta WCB—they dole out rebates when you have a COR and call it PIR)
- Aegis—we help clients understand the program and how to update their safety program to achieve the certificate.
- YOU—when you get your certifying audit!
How COR Works
Once you have a safety program in place, you have an audit and if you meet the standard you are awarded the C.O.R.
Why You Should Care.
- Because you will lose business without it. Many Alberta and B.C. corporations work exclusively with contractors holding a valid COR. Currently, the Saskatchewan government has started a pilot program, so they are on the road to becoming fully integrated into the COR.
- You get rebates. Workers Compensation loves to hand out rebates to companies who invest in the safety of their workers.
- You will make more money. Not only will more companies want to work with you, but it is proven that companies with a viable safety program have a stronger bottom line.
